Ten years ago, Maggie Marilyn set sail with the belief that fashion could be different.
There is a certain naivety required to begin anything. You leave the harbour with an idea of where you want to go, but very little understanding of what the voyage will ask of you. Perhaps that’s the gift of not knowing. If we could see every storm, we might never leave the shoreline.
Over the past decade, MM has weathered storms that at times felt insurmountable, changed course and questioned the map more times than I can count. We’ve also experienced extraordinary highs, bluebird days and what’s possible when the wind was behind us.
Through it all, I never stopped believing in what Maggie Marilyn could become. A brand grounded deeply in its values, but never standing still. One that holds nostalgia and optimism, familiarity and desire, ease and elegance in equal measure. A brand that honours where it comes from while always looking towards what comes next.
The Homebound Windbreaker was created to celebrate our first ten years, but my hope is that this is only the beginning of our story. I hope you wear it often and wear it hard. That it becomes sun-bleached and softened, and marked with the odd stain, tear or repair that, somehow, only makes you love it more. I hope you reach for it when weathering your own storms, as well as the days when the wind is beneath your sails. And that, as the years pass, those marks remind you of both. Because perhaps it isn’t only the easy days we should want to remember. The towering waves, the detours, and the moments we couldn’t see our way through are so often the ones that shape who we become.
Ten years on, I think I finally understand: You don’t set sail because you’re certain of what lies ahead. You set sail because you believe there is something worth sailing towards.
